In a recent session hosted by GoCrackIt, Aparna Srikanth conducted a mock interview with a student preparing for a role in the finance sector. The exchange offered insights into handling challenging questions, drawing connections between experience and future roles, and approaching interviews with strategic curiosity. Below are curated moments from the conversation that reflect how thoughtful mock interview preparation can shape confidence and clarity.
Aparna: What’s your understanding of the role you’re interviewing for?
Student: The job description wasn’t very detailed, but it emphasised decision-making and working with the office to analyse projects. I think I’ll be supporting someone in top management.
Aparna: That’s a good starting point, but in any practice interview, try to dig deeper. Are they hiring because of expansion? Or replacing someone? These answers will help you frame your pitch more effectively.
This approach demonstrates how mock interview practice can equip candidates to interpret vague job descriptions and prepare more pointed responses.
When asked about long-term goals, the student shared a candid concern.
Student: My family runs a business in Ranchi. I want to gain experience in a corporate setup, but if asked why I’m not joining the family business, how should I respond without sounding negative?
Aparna: It’s not negative at all. You can explain that the business is well-managed by others, and this is your chance to build your own space. Also, experience in a structured corporate environment can later enhance your contribution, should you return.
Sessions like this show how mock interviews create a space to rehearse vulnerable, real-life scenarios with honest yet polished responses.
The student had managed operations at their family’s automobile dealership.
Student: We had five service centres. I oversaw operations, inventory, customer satisfaction, and team coordination. Customer satisfaction went from 57% to 63%.
Aparna: That’s a meaningful impact. But take it further—what changed? Did you improve supplier relationships, staff training, or processes? These details help establish credibility.
Mock interviews online help candidates not just remember achievements, but articulate them in ways that resonate with employers.
As the session progressed, Aparna emphasised the power of asking the right questions.
Student: Can I ask about the role early in the interview without sounding unprepared?
Aparna: Yes, especially if the interviewer hasn’t offered details. Try asking, ‘What are the key deliverables in the first six months?’ or ‘What’s the broader impact this role is expected to have?’ That shows thoughtfulness.
Aparna also advised researching the company through LinkedIn and professional networks. “Doing that groundwork builds confidence and shows genuine interest,” they added—an essential part of mock interview preparation.
Another topic covered was how to introduce oneself effectively.
Another topic covered was how to introduce oneself effectively.
Aparna: The first one to two minutes matter. Highlight your skills—like stakeholder management, process improvement, and people leadership. Use concrete examples. Beyond two minutes, you risk losing attention.
This reinforced how online interview practice can improve not only responses, but structure and timing, often overlooked yet critical aspects of performance.
In one of the final exchanges, Aparna added:
“This role involves acting as a bridge between the CEO and various teams. Your ability to manage relationships and drive outcomes will matter. Highlight how you’ve done that—even in family-run setups.”
This interaction resembled a google mock interview in its focus on both behavioural and strategic thinking.
This session demonstrated how mock interviews can go far beyond rehearsing answers. They offer a supportive space to confront difficult questions, refine messaging, and walk into real interviews with conviction. For anyone navigating transitions, mock interview practice—especially through platforms like GoCrackIt—can offer clarity, encouragement, and tactical readiness.
