Mock Interview Spotlight: Building Confidence with GoCrackIt

In this mock interview session hosted by GoCrackIt, mentor Nithin Kumar Peratla guides a student through a thorough practice interview, offering insights and actionable advice. This session highlights the value of mock interview preparation in refining skills and boosting confidence for real-world opportunities, such as the student’s upcoming interview with LTI.

Here’s the abstracted version of the exchange:

Student: I’m from Dhan, Chhattisgarh, where I completed my schooling. I earned a mechanical engineering degree from VIT Vellore and worked for two and a half years at Bajaj Auto as an area service manager. Recently, I finished my MBA at BITSOM, focusing on marketing and strategy, and interned at Evolute IQ, a B2B SaaS company, handling sales and lead generation.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: That’s quite a diverse set of experiences. What attracts you to LTI?

Student: I’ve experienced working at a large company like Bajaj Auto as well as a startup like Evolute IQ. I find that conglomerates generally offer more growth opportunities across different departments. The role at LTI is a good fit for my MBA focus and my growing interest in business development, which I explored during my internship.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: How do you think your MBA will help you in this role?

Student: Since it’s a pre-sales position, my MBA has equipped me with the skills to focus on customer needs and use data-driven insights to provide tailored solutions. This is quite a shift from my engineering background, where I often relied on standard solutions.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: You’re aiming for an analyst role in the CIS service line. What excites you about it?

Student: I really enjoy analyzing data to find insights. I developed this skill during my MBA, and CIS aligns well with my experience in business development and data analysis.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: Can you explain what CIS stands for?

Student: I initially thought it was about consumer insights, but I realize I haven’t fully researched it yet. I’ll make sure to look into it before the interview.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: It actually refers to Cloud and Infrastructure Services. Can you explain the differences between on-premise, hybrid, and cloud data centers?

Student: Sure! On-premise data centers are those that use servers on the client’s location. Cloud data centers operate entirely online, while hybrid combines both approaches. Cloud solutions tend to be more cost-effective, but the security and maintenance requirements can vary.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: And what about the difference between single cloud and multi-cloud?

Student: I haven’t worked directly with those, but I’ll make it a point to research that.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: Good approach! Have you ever dealt with team conflicts?

Student: Yes, I have. When conflicts arise, I typically talk to each person individually to understand their perspective first. Then, I bring everyone together for a group discussion to help reach a consensus.

Student: Yes, I have. When conflicts arise, I typically talk to each person individually to understand their perspective first. Then, I bring everyone together for a group discussion to help reach a consensus.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: That’s a solid approach. In the pre-sales role, you’ll need to assess client needs and translate those into technical offerings. How would you collaborate with developers in that context?

Student: I’d start by qualifying leads and then bring in engineers for demonstrations since they can explain the technical details much better than I can.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: You’re close! In pre-sales, you’d actually receive requirements from sales, determine if our services are a good fit, and then communicate those solutions back to the client.

Student: Got it! That makes a lot of sense.

Nithin Kumar Peratla: Research scrum methodologies and understand the differences between scrum and waterfall. Also, look into LTI’s CIS offerings—tools like ChatGPT can be quite helpful for this. The more prepared you are, the better!

Student: Thanks for the advice! Do recruiters expect someone with a mechanical background to have knowledge of IT methodologies?

Nithin Kumar Peratla: They’ll appreciate your interpersonal skills, but having some IT knowledge shows that you’re proactive. You’ve still got time to prepare, so good luck!
