Dear Recruiters, It’s Time to Look Beyond Undergraduate Backgrounds

Think about it: Most students made their undergrad choices when they were 18 (or even younger), often influenced by circumstances, family, or limited exposure.

Why penalize them now—after they’ve invested years building skills, gaining experience, and pursuing an MBA to redefine their career paths?

A Common Frustration:

In my recent mentoring journey, I’ve worked with students from diverse fields—agriculture, medicine, arts, commerce, and more.

A frustration I often hear:
“I’ve worked so hard during my MBA, yet recruiters seem stuck on my undergraduate degree, overlooking everything I’ve accomplished since.”

Why This Mindset Needs to Change:

Diversity in academic backgrounds brings:
Innovation – Different fields encourage creative problem-solving.
Fresh Perspectives – Diverse thinking drives better business outcomes.
Adaptability – Candidates from varied backgrounds can approach challenges with unique solutions.

My Request to Recruiters:

Look beyond undergrad labels and focus on the value these candidates bring to the table:
✅ Assess their skills and experience gained during the MBA.
✅ Evaluate their problem-solving and leadership capabilities.
✅ Recognize the strength that comes from diverse career paths.
